Days 5, 6 and 7 of my Thirty Days of Whole30 Meals are behind me, and well, they didn’t go quite according to plan. These days fell on a weekend for which we had a trip planned to Asheville, NC.
We have a couple traditions when we go to Asheville. One involves visiting Biltmore – specifically, the winery. The other one is visiting a couple of our favorite breweries and ciders.
We also had a change of plans on Sunday which involved a day at the ER. Since these three days were such a mess, I’m combining them into one post, and there aren’t any pretty #foodlove pictures as usual.
Day 5
Day 5 was a Friday and turned out to be completely crazy at work. I started the morning off with good intentions. I took to work with me some bacon, an orange and a Peach Pear La Croix. If you’re not familiar with La Croix, it’s a brand of sparkling water with no artificial or natural sweeteners of any kind.
I was so busy during the day that I actually forgot about lunch. Right after work, we jumped in the car and headed to Asheville, which is about two hours away from our home. Right when we arrived, a snowstorm hit. We grabbed some fast food and made a mad dash for the hotel. #whole30fail
Day 6
On the morning of Day 6, we were snowed in at our hotel. Thankfully, breakfast was one of the amenities, but apparently the hotel staff isn’t on board the Whole30 boat yet. I made a feeble attempt to keep my Whole30 Meals goal by choosing a lot of fruit, some questionable meat and black coffee. (Yes, I’m trying black coffee, and I’m surprised at how okay I am with it so far!)
We spent the rest of the day at Biltmore, it’s onsite winery, and Highlands Brewing Company.
That night the roads froze over again, and all of the businesses began closing early. We were forced to grab fast food again and get back to the hotel.
Here’s a cute picture of the girls looking out at the snow from our hotel.
Although most of the day was a bust Whole30-wise, I didn’t go overboard. So I don’t feel too guilty about the day overall.
Day 7
Day 7 involved our trip back home. Breakfast started out okay with the same options at the hotel as the morning before.
During the car trip back, however, one of my daughters came down with an awful fever. Once we got home, we headed straight to the after hours clinic to wait for two hours. Only to be sent to the ER to wait another two hours. And then we finally got an exam room where we waited another two hours. Do you see a pattern here?
Thankfully, my daughter is feeling much better now, but I didn’t get any Whole30 meals for lunch or dinner that day. I don’t actually think I had any meals for lunch or dinner that day. I was so exhausted after a day full of waiting on doctors, nurses and test results that I crawled straight in bed when I got home.
